REPOSTING FROM MY FACEBOOK PAGE DATED JANUARY 29, 2026
Have you heard the term “easy believism?” Churches have taught it for a while. They may not call it that. They may say, “all you have to do is believe.” They may say “repent” and when asked what that means, they answer “feel sorry for your sin.” There is truth in those teachings but not the whole truth. Look at this explanation of repentance.
-----
Mark 1:15
Amplified Bible
15 and saying, “The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life] and believe [with a deep, abiding trust] in the good news [regarding salvation].”
-----
Repentance means real change, real commitment, seeking God’s purposes. Believing means having a deep abiding trust in Jesus as our Salvation.
-----
Romans 10:9-10
Amplified Bible
9 because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous—being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.
-----
Acknowledging that Jesus is Lord means recognizing His power, authority and majesty as God. We talk much more about Him as Savior than we do as Lord. He IS LORD but we have a free will to choose to accept His Lordship in our lives. That means a change in our attitudes. We die to self and allow Him to reign in our lives.
-----
Mark 1:17
Amplified Bible
17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], and I will make you fishers of men.”
-----
Being a disciple of Christ means we accept Him as our Master and teacher. It means we walk the same path He walks. When He is our Lord, He is our Master. Think about that. I am my dog’s master. When I say “get on your cushion” she does it. She may not stay there but she goes where I tell her. I am her master. Her responsibility is to obey immediately and continue that obedience consistently.
-----
Mark 1:18
Amplified Bible
18 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example].
-----
Look at the time frame. Immediately. Acknowledging that Jesus is Lord of our lives means an immediate response to Him, to give Him control of our lives and obey His commands. Look what they did. They left their old life behind and followed Him, believing and trusting in Him and following His example. Salvation and Lordship mean that we leave behind our old lifestyle, our old priorities.

I included a picture of our pool from when we lived in Illinois to illustrate that our salvation isn’t about the water or repeating a prayer. Salvation is a complete and life changing commitment to Jesus as Lord. This is what concerns me about easy believism. How many people believe they have their “fire insurance policy” from hell, but have never truly committed their lives to Jesus as Lord and Master?
