Why do we love sunsets and sunrises so much? Why are clouds so beautiful? Think about how many pictures of sunsets, sunrises, or other pictures of the sky that we see on social media. I have an album on my phone of pictures of the sky. Why are we so excited about eclipses or times the moon looks larger or has a different color? Why are people so impressed with the sky? Obviously, the beauty. But is there a deeper reason?

Psalm 97:6 Amplified Bible 

6 The heavens declare His righteousness,

And all the peoples see His glory and brilliance.

The beauty of the heavens, the flawless precision that allows our universe to not only function, but to produce amazing beauty is God’s work of creation. The heavens declare Him, His righteousness. We see a glimpse of His Glory and the brilliance of the Light of the World. The heavens reveal Jesus.

John 8:12 Amplified Bible

12 Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

Psalm 19:1-4 Amplified Bible

1 The heavens are telling of the glory of God;

And the expanse [of heaven] is declaring the work of His hands.

2 Day after day pours forth speech,

And night after night reveals knowledge.

3 There is no speech, nor are there [spoken] words [from the stars];

Their voice is not heard.

4 Yet their voice [in quiet evidence] has gone out through all the earth,

Their words to the end of the world.

In them and in the heavens He has made a tent for the sun,

I couldn’t get out of my driveway Sunday to go to church but I watched on the livestream. Our speaker was a local meteorologist. He said that he had always believed that scripture is true, but his belief was even more solidified when he went to meteorology school and learned from science how the heavens, the sky and the clouds and the weather patterns declare the glory of God. He said that if a scientist says that they don’t believe in God, they do not want to believe, because the science points them toward God.

Romans 1:20 Amplified Bible

20 For ever since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship [all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made], so that they [who fail to believe and trust in Him] are without excuse and without defense.

When we look at the sky, when we see all of God’s majestic creation, we see Him. If we deny Him, we are without excuse.

Deuteronomy 4:19 Amplified Bible

19 And beware that you do not raise your eyes toward heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and let yourselves be led astray and worship them and serve them, [mere created bodies] which the Lord your God has allotted to [serve and benefit] all the peoples under the whole heaven.

We are on a slippery slope when we place our emphasis on the creation rather than the Creator. In pagan religions there were sun gods and various other gods named for the creation. God warned the people of Israel not to be led astray to worship these false gods. You may think that we don’t worship creation, but think about it. God gave us the responsibility to have stewardship over His creation (Genesis 1:28) but we are not to worship it.

Matthew 24:35 Amplified Bible

35 Heaven and earth [as now known] will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

No amount of “save the earth” efforts will ultimately be successful. We are to be good stewards but we must also realize that the creation is not worthy of our worship. Only God is worthy of our worship. In His perfect timing, He will destroy the heavens and the earth and create a new Heaven and Earth.

Revelation 21:1-4 Amplified Bible

1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away (vanished), and there is no longer any [a]sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, arrayed like a bride adorned for her husband; 3 and then I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “See! The tabernacle of God is among men, and He will live among them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them [as their God,] 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be death; there will no longer be sorrow and anguish, or crying, or pain; for the former order of things has passed away.”

And the New Heaven and the New Earth will be much better than the one we see now.
