Is That True?

I saw a hair product commercial on television last night that said that our hair can grow 590 miles in our lifetime. That didn’t sound correct to me so I Googled it. AI Overview told me that indeed our hair grows 590 miles during our lifetime. That still didn’t sound right to me, so I got out my calculator. There are 5280 feet in a mile, so 590 miles would equal 3,115,200 feet of hair. Twelve inches in a foot. That would be 37,382,400 inches of hair growth during our lifetime. Hair generally grows about 6 inches per year. To achieve 590 miles of hair growth, we would have to have a lifespan of 6,230,400 years. Seriously! How easily we are deceived. I will rush out and buy this hair product to protect my 590 miles of hair for the next 6 million years.

Scripture also teaches us to be aware of false teachers and false doctrine.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves.

1 Timothy 6:2b-5 Teach and encourage these things. 3 If anyone teaches other doctrine and does not agree with the sound teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching that promotes godliness, 4 he is conceited, understanding nothing, but has a sick interest in disputes and arguments over words. From these come envy, quarreling, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness] is a way to material gain.

I understood that the math didn’t add up in that commercial because I learned to multiply and divide in 3rd and 4th grades. But how do we avoid false teaching from scripture? We read scripture daily, we study, we pray, we pray for discernment.

2 Timothy 3:15-17 and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Will you spend your time buying hair products or studying scripture?
