Appearances

I'm sharing this picture because it's just ridiculous. I have a PHONE interview later today, and for some reason I felt compelled to "dress appropriately" which meant make-up, jewelry and perfume. Anyone who knows me that most of the time I don't wear make-up, and even when I do, it's just eye make-up. I never put on foundation or do contouring. I don't have a theological or philosophical reason. I just touch my face too much and would end up with make-up all over my hands and everything I touched. So, when I see celebrities and others posting pictures of themselves without make-up, I know that wouldn't be a stretch for me.

As I was dressing for the interview, I was laughing at myself. I know it's a PHONE interview. But I started thinking about what scripture says about our appearances.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or his stature, because I have rejected him. Man does not see what the Lord sees, for man sees what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.”

1 Peter 3:3-4 Your beauty should not consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold ornaments or fine clothes. 4 Instead, it should consist of what is inside the heart with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very valuable in God’s eyes.

God sees our hearts. Ugliness is not in our physical appearance but from the sin in our hearts. True beauty is from the spirit within us. When His Spirit is in us, He sees us as beautiful.

I am reminded today that the purpose of this interview is to be for God's glory. My prayer is that He will give me the words to say and that He will use those words to draw people to Him.  Scripture reassures us about that too.

Mark 13:11b don’t worry beforehand what you will say. On the contrary, whatever is given to you in that hour—say it. For it isn’t you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
